Dr Heathcote R Wright
Cataract and Glaucoma Surgeon
Dr Heathcote Wright graduated from Univeristy of Queensland Medical School in 2000. He undertook his residency in North Queensland before returning to his native Melbourne to complete a PhD with Professor Hugh Taylor AC at the University of Melbourne.
He completed his advanced surgical training in ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2011 before heading to Bristol Eye Hospital to complete a fellowship in glaucoma surgery.
Dr Nima Pakrou
Cataract and Oculoplastic Surgeon
MBBS (Hons), MMed, FRANZCO
Dr Nima Pakrou graduated from the University of Adelaide with Honours in 2001, and was ranked first in his graduation year. He subsequently accomplished a Masters of Medicine through the University of Sydney.
He completed his advanced surgical training in ophthalmology through the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2010. Following this, he undertook a further two years of sub-specialty training in the UK, in the areas of oculoplastics and lacrimal surgery, as well as retinal and intraocular inflammatory diseases.
Dr Joanne Goh
Corneal, Cataract and Laser Eye Surgeon
MBBS(Hons), BMedSci, FRANZCO
Dr Joanne Goh graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne and undertook her internship at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.
She completed her ophthalmology training in Perth, Western Australia before heading to the United Kingdom to pursue a further two years of advanced sub-specialty fellowship training in cornea and external eye diseases, cataract surgery and laser eye surgery at the Bristol Eye Hospital and the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Meet Our Team
Shynade joined the team in late 2016. She plays an important role within the business, being the inaugural practice manager. She became passionately involved in eye care in 2011, working as an “all-rounder”, including, assisting with eye procedures and injections, managing surgical bookings, clinical testing and administrative work.
Shynade is outgoing, making her easily approachable. She will aim to ensure you have a pleasurable and positive experience when visiting MCES.
After 5 years in Tasmania, Shynade and long term partner moved to Melbourne to allow him to pursue a career in finance. She is the youngest of three children, owns two cats, Addie and Finn, and enjoys keeping active.
Julia completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Orthoptics Degree at La Trobe University in 2016. In her final year of study, Julia undertook clinical placements at private practices and public hospitals where she acquired valuable experience and knowledge in many areas of eye care.
Her responsibilities include: general, retinal, Oculoplastics, intraocular lens calculation for cataract surgery, assisting in Intravitreal injections and performing IPL treatment on patients with dry eyes.
Julia is part of a family of six and takes care of three energetic younger brothers. On her days off, Julia enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, always seeking to have adventurous outings. She also speaks Vietnamese.
Regina graduated from La Trobe University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Orthoptics degree. Since graduating, Regina has gained experience in a variety of ophthalmic settings, from private eye clinics to public hospitals to low vision clinics. She enjoys using her clinical skills to provide exceptional care to patients through her responsibilities of investigative testing and assisting with in-room procedures.
Regina has managed to combine her love of travel with her passion for providing ophthalmic care. Following a placement at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, Regina has since worked in ophthalmic settings around Victoria, from her home town Geelong to Shepparton to Ballarat. Regina has also travelled to PNG where she volunteered as part of an ophthalmic team preparing patients for cataract surgery and assisting with providing post-operative care.
Now settled in Melbourne, Regina still spends most of her weekends exploring different towns and areas around and outside Melbourne with friends and family.
Originally from Ireland, Paula has now settled in Melbourne with her Australian partner. Although studying Literature and Theatre at university Paula has found a love and passion for working within the field of health and ophthalmic care. She gained most of her experience in a large eye clinic in Bathurst, NSW and continued work in Victoria.
Previously Paula has worked in both an administration and clinical capacity and loves nothing more than making a patient feel welcome, comfortable and cared for.
In her life away from work Paula loves to travel, enjoys spending time in the outdoors hiking, biking and walking her dog, Rory!
Receptionist and Administration Assistant
Monica Joined MCES in July 2018 as our friendly receptionist and administration assistant.
Her enthusiasm and happy nature will ensure you are looked after from the moment you enter MCES. She has many years’ experience working in medical administration, most of which was with Neurosurgery. Her bubbly presence and medical knowledge makes her a valuable addition to the team.
Monica, originally from the Blue Mountains lives in Melbourne with her husband and two children. She loves to travel, read and spend time with her family.
Receptionist and Administration Assistant
Maddy joined MCES in June 2018. Her friendly self will greet you upon arrival.
Maddy is undertaking further training in and out of the workplace in order to improve her knowledge within the Ophthalmology industry. Training will ensure that she continually furthers her skill set to eventuate into becoming an all-rounder. The focus will be on assisting with in-room procedures, patient screening and testing, but most importantly administrative tasks within reception.
Her can-do attitude and bubbly personality makes her a great addition to the team.
