First Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL) procedure in-rooms

This week, Dr Joanne Goh, MCES Corneal and refractive surgeon, performed the first corneal cross linking procedure in-rooms since purchasing the Avendro. Dr Goh is a highly experienced Ophthalmologist, and has performed this particular procedure many times in the past.

Corneal Cross linking (CXL) is a treatment that strengthens the cornea and stops Keratoconus from getting worse. It is recommended for patients whose Keratoconus is getting worse as demonstrated by corneal curvature scans.

Studies have shown that CXL increases corneal strength by up to 300% and is successful in stopping keratoconus from getting worse in over 90% of patients.

The procedure is painless and takes approximately 30 minutes per eye.

Cataract Surgery

Laser Vision Correction Surgery

To save you the hassle of wearing glasses or applying contact lenses, laser vision correction surgery is available. Whilst it is not suited for everyone, this surgery can help you regain spectacle independence. Patients must be over 21 years of age and have not had any major change in their spectacle prescription for at least a year. Patients over 50 years of age may require lens replacement surgery instead.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is very common. It is the leading cause of blindness in Australia. 90% of people with AMD have the dry form. Awarded the best medical fit out in Australia

Prior to the construction of MCES, Dr Wright and Dr Pakrou sought to open a brand-new eye clinic.  They strongly believed everyone should have access to high quality eye care at an affordable price. To achieve this, a lot of planning went into architecturally designing a modern eye clinic which over the weekend was awarded the BEST MEDICAL FITOUT in Australia by ASOFIA for 2017/2018!!. Our first Retinal Conference

Our first Retinal Conference

On the 11th April 2018 we successfully hosted our #1st monthly retinal conference (with full breakfast provided), showcasing interesting retinal findings within our patients.
Dr Wright and Dr Pakrou discussed mutual patients’ conditions, diagnosis and management with our local optometrists. We are passionate about collaborating with our referrers and managing patients with shared care. Thank-you to those who attended the event, and we hope to see you again next month!

First IPL Patient

Melbourne Comprehensive Eye Surgeons (MCES) is proud to offer a new intense pulse light (IPL) therapy for dry eye. We are only one of a few clinics in Australia able to provide this revolutionary treatment to patients who want to relieve or eliminate symptoms of eye irritation.

Intense pulse light, IPL is a precise chain of bright flashes used to treat patients with dry eyes caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). These Meibomian glands exist within your eyelids and are responsible for producing the essential oily outer layer of your tear film. It keeps the tear film in place and prevents the tears from evaporation.

This past month we met a lovely lady named Maureen who suffered extensive dry, irritated eyes and was distressed by her frequent use of lubricating eye drops that hardly brought her relief. Her severe dry eyes made it a struggle to work on her computer and read her. Maureen was fed up and wanted to try a treatment that was able to give her long-term relief from her dry eyes to improve her quality of life.

Our expert ophthalmologist, Dr Heathcote Wright guided Maureen through a comprehensive evaluation of her dry eyes with our high-tech Antares infra-red ocular camera that included a tear film analysis and imaging of her eyelids. She has successfully completed two sessions of IPL treatment and is happy she is starting to recover from her dry eye.

First Community Donations

First Community Donations

Melbourne Comprehensive Eye Surgeons are passionate about giving back to our local community and helping those in need who may need an extra helping hand from time to time.

We are excited to announce the first donations go to 3081 Angels and The Ivanhoe RSL.

Staff members Julia and Jade visited 3081 Angels base at the Rosanna Baptist Church to meet the team and find out a bit more about what they do. The volunteers do a wonderful job of collecting preloved baby and children’s furniture and clothing to give to families in the Heidelberg West and surrounding suburbs. – https://www.facebook.com/the3081angels/

Sadly the Ivanhoe RSL was burnt down in a fire in April, we hope our small donation will assist the rebuild.
Every month our MCES staff select two charities from local organisations or individuals to display on our charity box.

Our patients are then given a token at the end of their appointment to put towards the charity of their choice displayed on the box.

The winning charity for the month receives $300 and the runners up receives $200.
